Spinal Decompression in Lacey
We offer an effective non-surgical approach for people with disc injuries, such as herniations that helps the discs heal naturally. Non-surgical spinal decompression therapy at Atlas Chiropractic PC may be the solution for your lumbar or cervical disc injury.
What Happens With a Disc Injury?
Your discs are the “shock absorbers” that sit between your spinal vertebrae. When they’re damaged, either by an injury or spinal degeneration, the fluid center of the disc can bulge outward—similar to when you squeeze a water balloon. When the disc material protrudes in this way, it can interfere with the nearby nerves, creating pain and other types of dysfunction anywhere those nerves go.
How It Works
You’ll lie on our computerized table, and we’ll place straps to keep your spine in the correct position. Then the table will gently stretch your spine and release, doing this repeatedly for about 10 or 15 minutes. The gentle pulling creates negative pressure that pulls the bulging disc material back into its natural position, taking pressure off the nerves and helping to alleviate pain and other symptoms like numbness and tingling.
We’ll set the table to apply the appropriate amount of stretch for your condition. While most people find this therapy comfortable, in some it can make them a bit sore afterward. This typically eases up that evening or even in a day or two.
Customized Care
We’ll start with a thorough examination to determine the best approach for your specific condition. We recommend a modified approach for people with ligament laxity or tears. Dr. Sweet will explain his recommendations and answer all of your questions before beginning any care plans.
